Our Deeply Tranquil and Imaginative Mind

Is like a horse-drawn wagon, its driver missing.

Aimlessly, horse and cart dawdle through the rich,
tall grass of the endless green prairie.

There is no point of departure, no destination.

But inevitably, the wheels of this cart will drop
into the deep furrows, the wheel-tracks,
worn into the soft prairie soil by happenings of the future
and events of the past.

The horse will gladly follow this easy trail,
and any budding coach-master may now climb aboard,
and watch the scenery and hear the sounds
of what was already long gone in his grandfather’s time
and what will not yet come to pass
when her grandchildren reach her age.
